Chronic Liver Disease
, also called Cirrhosis, is a condition wherein scar tissues supplant healthy liver tissues. This prevents the liver from working normally. Since the loss to your liver builds up over time, it’s considered a chronic or long-term liver disease.
Our liver is the body’s largest internal organ. It’s placed under our ribs on the right side of our belly. The liver performs many important functions:
Waste removal from the body, such as toxins and medicines
Making bile to help digest food
Storing sugar that the body uses for energy
Making new proteins.
The scar tissues formed during Cirrhosis slowdown the flow of blood through the liver. Over time, the liver can’t perform the way it should do. In some cases, it is damaged so badly that it stops functioning. This causes liver failure.
